Navigating Palettes

Question:

I have been having problems getting the LabVIEW toolkit to match the images in your book.  I have installed the 8.5 eval version of LabVIEW, the toolkit, applied the patch, and mass compiled.  However, when I choose View —> Functions Palette —> AddOns, all I see are 2 icons (Database and NXT Toolkit). NXT Direct Connect is nowhere to be found. Further, when I click on the NXT Toolkit, all I see is:
gcompiler, menus and shared, not Structures, Numeric, Boolean, etc.  as shown in page 6 of your book. I have tried
Is there any way you could give me some advice as to what to do next?

Answer:

I think I figured out whats going on. You need to be in the Block Diagram (white background) not the Front Panel (gray background). You are looking at the Controls Palette not the Functions Palette.  There is only one NXT control palette menu, but there are two NXT functions palette menus.

Running Direct Commands

Question:

I am unable to run programs from chatper 14 on the RCX.  What am I doing wrong?

Answer:

That chapter contains “Direct Commands”.  Direct Command programs from the PC and talk to the teatherd or wireless NXT.  They are not meant to be downloaded to the NXT brick itself.  Use the run button on the Front Panel to execute those VIs.
