The LabVIEW and DAQ Primer is an introductory LabVIEW programming and data acquisition (DAQ) textbook. It is not a rigorous introduction to computer science, but rather a fresh approach for quickly acquiring programming, DAQ, and problem solving skills that prepares users to sense acquire and control desired information from the real-world.

The target audience for this work is secondary and post-secondary students, as well as non-programmer domain experts who wish to master LabVIEW basics and DAQ. The text is written with the expectation it can be paired with an inexpensive DAQ device or with other hardware devices which include both analog and digital I/O capability, and with a fairly wide variety of inexpensive sensors and output devices to explore common approaches to I/O. There is intentionally no specific focus on any one discipline of engineering or the sciences, although an effort is made to include examples and exercises that relate to multiple disciplines.

The first part of the book explores different programming concepts with timely examples and exercises. An introductory set of DAQ concepts which build on the programming concepts are then applied to real-world interactions with hands-on examples and exercises. Remaining chapter content include tips on good programming practice, program documentation, and information pertaining to the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) and the Certified LabVIEW Developer exams.
